The area has established a reputation as one of the premier fishing destinations in Western Europe. The River Moy is one of the most productive salmon fishing rivers in Europe with recorded catches of 5,000 salmon on rod and line in a single season. The lake fishing on Lough Conn is renowned for brown trout on the fly but produces trout through-out the season from February to September. Deep sea fishing charters with equipment and guide can be arranged locally in Killala. There are many local shore fishing opportunities. There are several quality golf courses in the area, the nearest being Ballina (10mins), Inniscrone Links course (20 mins) overlooking the Atlantic. Others within an hours drive are Westport, Castlebar and the famous links course at Carne, Belmullet.There are many fine beaches in the area to choose from. The local beach at Ross (10mins) with its three kilometers of un-spoilt sand has Blue Flag status. Inniscrone beach (25 Mins), also a Blue Flag beach, has a 5km stretch of fine sands backed by sand dunes.
