Ellenslea is a lovely cosy cottage with the most beautiful views of the Galloway Hills from virtually every window and so you can plan your day's walking next to the wood burning stove!Carsphairn lies in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway and is situated on the tourist route from Gretna to Ayr. It is one of six villages that make up this stunning area known as Glenkens. The village also has its own Heritage Centre which is open seasonally and there you can discover all about the area. The wild beauty of Britain's largest forest park at 300 square miles is on the doorstep and with over 400 miles of road it is just beckoning you to explore. The Galloway Hills are all around you from the Rhinns of Kells which is a classic high level ridge walk to the Cairnsmore of Carsphairn with its very flat summit. The area offers so many absorbing activities from spending a quiet afternoon with a rod and reel beside one of the area's many excellent rivers or lochs, or pushing yourself to the limit along a challenging cycle track on one of the nearby 7 Stanes mountain bike trails. Or why not try one of the many water based activities arranged by the local water ski school and sailing centre based on the serene and beautiful Loch Ken. Red Kites are one of Britain's rarest and most beautiful birds of prey and The Galloway Red Kite trail is a circular route which takes in some of the most impressive scenery in the south of Scotland. Visit Polmaddy which is a classic example of a Galloway village before the clearances. This is where Robert the Bruce found refuge shortly before his victory against the English at Glentrool. Scotland's 'forgotten corner' provides superb river fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout whilst the still waters support a variety of coarse species including pike, perch, carp, roach, tench and bream. Combine this with numerous lochs holding wild and stocked trout as well as a coast that offers fantastic sea fishing from shore or boat, Galloway is truly an angler's paradise. Galloway really is a land of ample and although very accessible and wildly beautiful it is relatively undiscovered and very unspoilt. But come and discover it for yourself. The property has oil central heating.
