Mansewood is an elegant and spacious former manse dating back to around 1850 in the beautiful conservation village of New Luce in the south west corner of Dumfries and Galloway. It is ideally situated to enjoy the myriad activities which this region has to offer and in a temperate climate which surprises many visitors. This region of Scotland is kissed by the Gulf Stream and one of the main reasons it is blessed with a number of stunning gardens. For example, the Logan Botanic Gardens are a lovely visitor attraction housing a range of exotic and unusual plants normally only found in much warmer climes. This region is an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise and the range of activities on offer is superb. Closer to home, rough shooting, deer stalking, pheasant shooting and fishing in the River Luce can all be arranged with the owner of the property as can paint balling and clay pigeon shooting. For the truly energetic, Scotland's coast to coast long distance footpath traverses the area as it meanders its way from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath on the east coast. It is a stunningly beautiful walk with some sections affording amazing views. Portpatrick is the region's jewel in the crown, a must see for visitors. On a clear day it is possible to see the Irish coast, which is not surprising as legend has it that St Patrick stepped across here! The internationally acclaimed 7Stanes mountain biking venue at Glentrool is highly recommended. However, for those who prefer their feet on terra firma, Glentrool is really the 'Highlands of the Lowlands' and the Bruce's stone adds that evocative touch as a massive granite reminder of Robert the Bruce's first victory over the English in March 1307 in the run up to Bannockburn. The whole area is steeped in history from the nearby historic Glenluce Abbey to the very early Christian stones at Kirkmadrine. Glentrool is known locally as the gateway to the Galloway Hills. An awesome, remote and elusive range of hills rewarding determined walkers with breathtaking views of extensive moorland, shimmering lochs, and gushing waterfalls, deep glens and imposing rock outcrops. There are innumerable sandy beaches and rocky coves in the area.A stroll along one of these wonderful beaches followed by a pub lunch in the friendly village of Port Logan is not far short of the perfect day. As one would expect, the golfer is very well catered for in Southern Scotland as it is home to a number of challenging and championship level courses. For those who don't like to leave civilisation too far behind, some excellent retail therapy is on offer in Belfast, reached via a short ferry ride from the local port of StranraerProperty has oil central heating.
