Mill House Annex is situated in a very unique location on the very banks of the River Endrick near the hamlet of Gartness, on the edge of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Mill House Annex dates back to the 1800's when it once was a working mill producing textiles. The water wheel has long gone but evidence of the water ways and structures can still be seen. The property is quaint and quirky with thick walls, floors which run off at different angles, ceilings of varying heights and even a few stone steps to take you up from the lounge into the kitchen area. Stable doors lead out to an open mature garden area and the river side is only 3 metres away. You hear the constant rush of the river as it flows by sometimes it is louder after heavy rain, then it becomes more of a roar! The waterfall beside this property are known as The Potts and are a series of rocky pools, flat slab rocks creates a 'salmon ladder' where fish leap, making their way up steam to spawn a really special sight to see. The river is also famous for trout and by request there is free seasonal fishing available from the grounds of the Mill. While relaxing by the river you may see an abundance of regular wildlife visitors the kingfishers, heron, ducks and woodpeckers to name a few, so bring your binoculars. All essential local amenities can be found at Killearn (1.5 miles), with hotels, pubs, restaurants and shops. Leisure facilities can be found within 3 miles. There are quiet roads and trails to explore in the area with good access for walks and cycling. The West Highland Way passes through Gartness. Loch Lomond is only an 8 mile drive away at Balmaha. A variety of boat excursions can be taken on the loch or you can hire a boat/kayak to explore yourself or for fishing. Balloch lies on the south shore of Loch Lomond and is the home to the National Park Gateway Centre, Loch Lomond Shores retail outlets and a Sea-life Centre. The National Park offers ample of hill walking, from a brisk ramble to more serious Munro bagging. There are numerous golf courses in the area. Glengoyne Distillery is open to the public for tours and a sample of the uisge beatha or the water of life! From nearby Milngavie you can take the train into Glasgow for some retail therapy, or travel by bus or car to Stirling to visit some historical places of interest. In surrounding villages you will find a variety of outdoor activities from highwire adventure to pony trekking.
