" We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Abbey Cottages! The area is amazing and well away from the buzz of normal life. There are wonderful walks close by... great for dog owners!
The cottage is nicely furnished and the owners made it even more inviting and comfortable by adding small things you normally don't get in a holiday cottage! It's just lovely to come back after a good walk in the Brecon Beacons and to settle down in front of the fireplace with a good book or go for some otter spotting in the close by lakes!
We are looking forward to our next visit there! "

" It would be hard to find a more beautiful spot than the Abbey Cottages at Talley - the countryside all around is lovely, with hill walks and amazing views. To add to the "specialness" of the site, the cottages have just a hedge to divide them from the ruins of the 12th century abbey. Across the paddock there's a lake, admittedly privately owned, but in sight of Red Kite Cottage. In the mornings one could watch the mist rising and evaporating from the lake, while the abbey ruins stood dark and stark nearby; on sunny evenings the lake is full of magical reflections.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful and had an array of creatures pottering around, especially an elderly black hen which desperately wanted to come indoors. We would go back to Abbey Cottages (especially to Red Kite Cottage) any time, any time at all, because we loved it there so much.
For my husband and I and our dog, this was a perfect choice for a holiday, but shopaholics beware, the nearest shops are in Llandeilo about seven miles away. I visited several of the woollen mills in the area and even saw an exhibition of Welsh quilts at Lampeter, which was a dream come true. We had splendid weather throughout our visit, which was just as well because the narrow, winding, minor roads are challenging at the best of times - but that was part of the fun of being away from Norfolk.
The owner kindly suggested a pub a few miles away, (the Black Lion at Abergorlech), which served good, locally produced food and where customers could bring their dogs in with them at lunchtimes. She also told us about a butcher in Llandeilo, (Dewi Roberts), who makes super beef pies and whose sausage rolls are magnificent both in size and in quality.
Beside Red Kite Cottage a large, well-fenced, grassy area is set aside for visiting children to play in.
I've run out of superlatives but if one wants to relax and bask in quiet rural splendour, go and fall in love with Abbey Cottages at Talley. "
