Kirkcudbright is a gently enticing place, full of interest and vibrancy only 4 miles away. The historic High Street with its 18th century town houses painted in a myriad of colours, lends an almost continental flavour and feel to the town. McLellans Castle dominates the skyline and amidst the houses are cobbled wynds, home to the towns thriving artistic community. Kirkcudbright has long been known as the Artists Town and has always attracted kindred spirits inspired by the soft light of the Solway and its natural beauty. It is said that artists arriving on a summer painting visit stayed for the rest of their lives! Spring Fling is one event not to miss when the many arts and crafts studios in the town open their doors to demonstrate their creative talents. Kirkcudbright also has a thriving fishing industry with its own fishing fleet. Within easy reach are rugged moorlands, the Galloway hills, pastoral landscapes and myriad number of dramatic cliffs and rocky bays. There are also ancient stones, romantic castles, the UKs largest forest park with walks and drives galore. The region has some 30 golf courses in total to choose from including a championship course at Southerness. The fishing is also superb, with a stretch of river, lonely loch or miles of rich and varied coastline to suit all tastes. The wildlife is exceptional: red kites and buzzards in profusion, wild goats, deer and badgers, to name but a few. There is something to see in every season and few can remain unmoved by the sights and sounds of this beautiful area no matter what the time of year. Galloway has a somewhat temperate climate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream and new visitors are always surprised by the range of plants that prosper in the region- many whose usual home is in warmer climes thousands of miles away!Property has oil central heating.
