East Yorkshire enjoys stunning coastline and has its fair share of seaside towns. A few of the more popular towns are explored here:

Scarborough

The seaside resort of Scarborough is claimed to be one of the oldest towns in England. Scarborough first became famous for its spring water. In 1620 Elizabeth Farrow tasted water from the spring and thought it so foul that it must have medicinal properties. Quick to take full advantage of this it was soon claimed that the water could cure all sorts of illnesses. Scarborough Castle dominates the town skyline and there is plenty of attractions for the seaside lover.

Whitby

THe coastal seaside town of Whitby is an idylic location for any holiday. Pictured above you can see its its not just another seasoide resort. Houses seem to cling on to the hillside and steep slopes gazing out to sea. Historically Whitby was an important harbour.
