The NT also owns several proeprties in the area, which make for worthwhile visits - including Sudbury Hall at Ashbourne (a late 17th-century house with sumptuous interiors, housing the Museum of Childhood within the service wing), and Hardwick Hall and Stainsby Mill, at Doe Lea, Chesterfield. Ilam Park (running along the River Manifold, with spectacular views towards Dovedale), and High Peak Estate (a vast area of outstanding walking country) also come under NT ownership and provide wonderful walking opportunities.
