More about Ysgoldy

In a rural location, Ysgoldy makes a perfect rural retreat, yet lies just 1½ miles away from the historic town of Tregaron. This quaint 19th century, detached former chapel was once a Sunday school for local children, and is now a cosy holiday home. Set in ½-acre grounds, the character of Ysgoldy is evident with its beams, thick stone walls and deep windowsills. The centrepiece of the open plan living space is the brick, stone and beamed fireplace with the cosy multi-fuel burner - perfect for quiet nights in with a glass of wine.
Tregaron was once an important place for gathering livestock for the farms to take their animals across the mountains and along ancient tracks to the markets in England. The dramatic Abergwesyn Mountain Road was originally the first stage of the farmers route. Today Tregaron is a centre for 'Trotian', horse trotting and carriage racing, and the annual summer event attracts competitors from all over the UK and Ireland. It is also the home of the Welsh Gold Centre selling Celtic inspired designs. The town has all the amenities you will need including an award-winning hotel, inn and restaurant. Just outside the town you will find the Cors Caron National Nature Reserve, where you can travel through the vast wetlands and bogs and visit the large observation centre where you can enjoy a tranquil view of the landscape and wildlife.
Cyclists will love the easy access to a 6km section of the Ystwyth Trail. Make sure you find time to visit Strata Florida, the middle age preserved ruins of a Cistercian monastery and church. Whether you would like to learn about the history and stories, explore the countryside, or take a moment for quiet reflection and inspiration, there is plenty to do. Slightly further afield, but still very accessible, you can explore the delights of coastal Ceredigion, including 60 miles of coastal path, sandy beaches, quiet coves and pretty seaside towns including Aberaeron, New Quay and Aberystwyth. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
